The tree that is not part of the nature, some say, becomes dead. Here in Macedonia we do not agree with that. Our craftsmen bring back the soul of the wood, giving it back its life. An idea is born, a vision, and throughout the skilful hands of the craftsman the picture from the paper is transformed into a masterpiece, giving the wood second life.
The oldest data of the Macedonian craftsmen comes from the 9th c. when the Slepcansko – Prilepsko School of crafting was born. The motives on the carvings symbolize that the religion had a great impact on the development of the woodcarving in the 18th c. in Macedonia.
There is almost no country in the world that has not felt the spirit of the Macedonian wood carves marked in the many masterpieces, which without any doubt represent Macedonia as the cradle of the woodcarving in the world.
